Here's my dilemma: I want to move into writing about medical science, the US healthcare system, and the human genome project, but I have no educational or work background in medicine or science. (I've been writing about business, including the energy industry, for 10 years.)
Anyone have some constructive ideas about, and maybe some recent experience with moving into these fields? I feel as if I should at least take some basic biology classes, but maybe that's going at it the hard way?

pseudonymIf this is still a valid question ---- I've found my educational background in wildlife biology invaluable in my career as an environment reporter. I would think the same is true for specializing in medical coverage. You can wing it without the education, but with it, you'll better know what questions to ask, when someone is b.s.ing you and whether something someone says is really significant. I say go for the classes. They'll pay off in the end.
